Collection Notes

Concept Studies are original jewellery designs built around an idea, story or observation.

Rather than showing one symbol, each design brings several details together to express a larger idea.

Every design is first made as an original hand-engraved piece. That piece may be available to purchase, retained in the EMT Archive or displayed elsewhere.

Where a design is open to commission, it may inspire a new piece made individually for its wearer rather than copied exactly.

By Ways Unknown is the first design in this collection.

By Ways Unknown

Concept Study 001

An original engraved study built around navigation, uncertainty and the idea of continuing without knowing exactly where the way will lead.

Celestial and navigational details move around the band, with changing lines, markings and points of reference forming a design intended to be discovered gradually rather than read all at once.

Archive Status: On loan for display.

Open to commission — The study may provide a starting point for future commissioned work, with each new piece developed individually rather than reproducing the original.

Presented as Part of
The Archive

Every Archive piece is individually presented as part of The Archive and is accompanied by its own Archive Card.

The Archive card documents the piece’s place within The Archive, and is carefully presented to be collected, kept, and passed on alongside the work itself.
