Choosing the Words

The Inscription Library

Some inscriptions begin with words already known. Others begin with the wish to mark something, without yet knowing quite what to say.

The Inscriptions Library is a place to begin.

Its entries are arranged by theme, with words drawn from historical sources alongside shorter phrases selected for their suitability to engraving.

Your Own Words

The library is only a starting point. Names, dates, quotations, private phrases and words of your own are equally welcome. Other lettering styles and languages are also welcome.

Length and placement will depend on the piece.

Words Carried

Inscribing jewellery is an old practice.

—❦—

Names, prayers, vows, mottos and private messages survive on rings and personal objects from many periods.

Some were openly displayed; others were placed inside rings or on the reverse of a pendant.
